Oval Revival

This rundown 200-year-old property was in a state of neglect and disrepair. With no possibility of making structural changes to the sloping floors and walls it presented a real challenge to renovate and repair. The carpets and linoleum floors were sticky with dust and held onto the smell of years of cigarette smoke. There are only two straight walls in this top floor property nestled in the roof. The rest of the walls sloped inwards and along with the uneven floors this presented a real challenge to create a living space that didn’t feel like it was about to tumble down.

The owner gave me free rein of the renovation, repair and design of the property. It required an entire overhaul – new flooring, creative use of space to create cupboards and storage space and using optical illusion of having straight walls by hand painting candy-striped accent walls.
